The excavations in Pöide are over for now, but questions remain for the coming year.
Last week, a 180 cm deep hole came to light, which, according to the georadar, could measure 2 x 2 m. The pit would appear to be in the corner of a later building that stood in the middle of the fortress. A cellar? Or still a well, perhaps left unfinished? We will try to find out in 2025.
But beneath the medieval layer came a beautiful intense layer of Viking Age, the remains of a building with lots of typical fine pottery and a nice ring that seems to have been lost just last year. 😊
