A silver treasure was found under the floor during the renovation of a house in Rahu village in Saaremaa.
In the village of Rahu in Saaremaa, a hobby detectorist Roland Pärn discovered under the floor of his house during renovations silver coins from the 11th and 12th centuries, which Marika Mägi (Osiliana/Tallinn University) inspected. In total, there were about 70 coins, located at a depth of 30-40 cm and dating from the 11th-12th centuries.
Roland Pärn said:
“I have found them and it is important and I got to hold them in my hand. And I think the gain of giving them away is many times greater than if I had stuck them in my drawer and then admired them in the dark of night and then taken the knowledge to the grave!”
